Very few starters played in the NFL Preseason finale for both Miami and Dallas Thursday night, Dolphins had the upper hand at home by beating the Dallas Cowboys 17-3. The two teams had 52 inactive players for this game, hoping to avoid injury.
Larry Johnson scored on a 22-yard touchdown run for Miami, and backup quarterback Matt Moore threw for another score.
Dallas third-string quarterback Stephen McGee went 21 for 25 for 233 yards but couldn't get his team into the end zone. The Cowboys' only points came on a 20-yard field goal by David Buehler. Dallas kickers combined to miss three field goals.
Dallas opens the season Sunday, September 11 at New York Jets on NBC Sunday Night Football.
