LAS CRUCES- A man arrested earlier this month for raping a woman is now charged with shooting at a home Sunday morning.
Bruno I. Rodriguez Jr., 26, was arrested Sunday and is charged with one count each of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Police say Rodriguez went to a home to confront someone about an argument, then pulled a sock from his waistband, which the victim believe to be concealing a gun. The victim knocked Rodriguez's hand away, causing the gun to fire once. As the victim slammed the door and ran to safety, Rodriguez fired two additional shots into the home through a window.
Rodriguez fled before police arrived but was detained later Sunday at a home on south Alemendra Street. Officers also recovered a handgun.
On Thursday, Aug. 11, Rodriguez invited a 30-year-old woman to his home where he sexually assaulted her and threatened to shoot the victim if she said anything. When he was arrested the following day Rodriguez was charged with false imprisonment, criminal sexual penetration and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Rodriguez is now being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $25,000.
