EL PASO- UTEP will be unveiling it's $32 million student recreation center upgrade today.
“This building is a Tier One building, as far as the infrastructure,”Hector Munoz, director of campus recreational sports and marketing said. “It’s a dream come true, and it’s definitely long overdue.”
According to Munoz, more than 4,000 students, faculty and staff are expected to visit the facility on a daily basis. The university began construction on the rec center in October 2009 and will be opening it at noon today.
The new state-of-the-art gym includes an indoor 1/8-mile running track, multiple levels devoted to free weights and cardiovascular equipment, a 12,000-square-foot hardwood floor, an indoor soccer court, a recreational area for a future juice bar or food vendor, fully equipped locker rooms, and most noticeably, a “one-of-a-kind” climbing wall, according to Brian Carter, associate director for recreational sports.
