TEXAS- Texas is doing its part to help those in Irene’s path.
American Red Cross centers in cities across the state are sending volunteers to the East Coast. The goal is to get there before Irene makes landfall.
"Our first teams of volunteers that are going to be headed out of the Metroplex today up to New York City. You know it’s just crazy when we look at the forecast models for Hurricane Irene and the potential that she has to just inflict harm upon millions of people," says Anita Foster, Red Cross Volunteer.
Volunteers make a minimum three-week commitment to help in disaster zones. Many of them stay longer than that.
