As The University of Texas at El Paso kicks off a new semester with more than 22,000 students, the Miner Store in East El Paso will celebrate the start of the UTEP athletics year with a kickoff celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27.
UTEP mascot Paydirt Pete will join the University’s cheerleaders and athletes to sign autographs and interact with fans.
"The East side UTEP Miner Store has been one of El Paso's best-kept secrets,” said UTEP Athletic Director Bob Stull. “A lot of our fans who live on the East side don't realize that they don't have to drive to the other side of town to purchase individual game tickets and Miner apparel. By purchasing tickets through the UTEP Miner Store, fans also don't incur online surcharges. We're looking forward to kicking off another exciting year for UTEP Athletics with this fun-filled event on Saturday."
Athletes attending Saturday’s event include football players Joe Banyard and Cliff Tucker; men’s basketball player Gabriel McCulley; women’s basketball player Kayla Thornton; and women’s soccer player Skye Schultz.
The University’s new partner, Coca-Cola Refreshments, will offer beverages for Miner fans to sample. UTEP Food Services, managed and operated by Sodexo Services, will provide free food.
Miner fans also will have the opportunity to sign up for a football ticket giveaway, a big giveaway surprise, and several door prizes, including a football signed by UTEP football Head Coach Mike Price. Individual and season tickets will be available for purchase.
