The El Paso High Tigers stunned the Borderland in 2010, finishing with a 7-3 overall record. The Tigers just missed out on the playoffs by the closest of margins: losing a coin flip. Just like Bowie a year before, the Tigers were out of the playoffs by chance. Now, just like Bowie last season, El Paso High expects a playoff berth, and they have 25 seniors with tons of experience back to help.
Running Back James Saenz is back after 1308 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. He will be the work horse for El Paso High, who hopes to make the playoffs for the first time since 1996.
Head Coach Robert Morales returns for his second season at EPHS. "You know what, I think the kids took it to heart, and they really worked hard so it wouldn't come down to a coin flip, we want to control our own destiny, so that has been our motto this whole spring and summer." Senior Safety Jake Rivas said, "We use it as motivation to step up and not leave it up to chance at the end, get back there and make the playoffs, for sure."
EPHS opens the season 7:00pm Friday at Fabens.
