LAS CRUCES- A mother has been arrested twice in two days for DWI. Her children were passengers in her car both times.
Erika M. Beltran, 30, was charged with aggravated DWI and intentional child abuse after a Saturday, Aug. 20, crash. Beltran also didn’t have car insurance or a driver’s license.
Police say she rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection. Beltran’s children were allowed to leave with other relatives and her vehicle was towed to an impound lot.
On Monday, Aug. 22, Beltran was stopped by a Las Cruces Police officer as she attempted to remove her vehicle from the impound lot. Again, her two children were passengers in the vehicle and she was intoxicated. Beltran was once again charged with DWI and intentional child abuse. After Monday’s arrest Beltran’s children were placed in the custody of the state’s Children, Youth and Families Department. Beltran was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $11,000.
