EL PASO-- Drink, Drive, Go to Jail, and maybe get blood drawn in between all that.
The El Paso Police Department will be kicking off the "2011 Labor Day Drink Drive Go To Jail" campaign from the Texas Department of Transportation with a "no refusal mandatory blood draw" tonight.
The Labor Day enforcement period will be August 19th to September 6th, and will also include seven additonal officers a night.
The mandatory blood draw will mean that if a person is arrested for a DWI, and the person refuses to take part in a breathalyzer test, the officers will then present the person with a search warrant for blood to a judge. When the warrant is signed, the person arrested will then be taken to a hospital for the mandatory blood draw.
Individuals with two or more DWI convictions or accidents involving serious injury will always be subjected to the mandatory blood draw.
