UPDATE: Texas Tech has received emails from Dr. Marco Diaz and Dr. Leonardo Loaiza from Haiti. The assistant professors with the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, arrived in Haiti early Tuesday morning.
They were contacted by the U.S. Coast Guard to help victims of the earthquake. Both Dr. Diaz and Dr. Loaiza are trained and certified in basic disaster life support.
Since an aftershock struck today in Haiti, the medical school had not been able to get in contact with them.
We have just learned this afternoon that the medical school has received emails from both doctors saying they are safe.
