LAS CRUCES- A man who concealed a laptop computer and lighter fluid in his pants was arrested on shoplifting charges for the second time this month.
Robert Anthony Montoya, 19, is charged with non-residential burglary and shoplifting over $500.
A securityofficer from the store recognized Montoya who was arrested on shoplifting charges at the same store on Aug. 3. After the Aug. 3 arrest, Montoya was issued what’s known as a criminal trespass warning that forbade him from entering the store again.
After spotting Montoya in the store Monday morning, thesecurityofficer detained him and called police. While in the security office Montoya disclosed that he was shoplifting and that the sunglasses he was wearing belong to the store. Montoya also had a laptop computer and lighter fluid concealed in his pants. Montoya told detectives that he intended to conceal an electric toaster in his pants but spotted the laptop computer and decided to take that, instead.
Montoya was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.
