The cable fell into oncoming traffic.
Two semi trucks then slammed into it, tearing down two power polls it was connected two.
Police say at total of 11 vehicles, including a motor home, were involved in several chain reaction crashes on both sides of the freeway.
Traffic quickly backed up for miles as police closed down west bound lanes and the Gateway.

It took crews about an hour to restore electricity.
