A tragic scene unfolded at the Ballpark in Arlington on Thursday as a fan died while reaching for a baseball.
The fan caught a ball that was thrown to him by left fielder Josh Hamilton, and then fell approximately twenty feet to an area that is out of sight from the field.
The Rangers confirmed his death at the conclusion of their game against Oakland. Rangers president Nolan Ryan confirmed the death with the following statement:
"We are deeply saddened to learn that the man who fell has passed away as a result of this tragic accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
The victim was not identified.
