Anthony Dudley is the defending discus gold medalist for the Junior Olympics and he hopes to not only retain his title, but add some hardware to his trophy shelf. The Region 10 Meet will be held this weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico with the top finishers qualifying to the Junior Olympics National Championship in Wichita, Kansas later this month. Dudley, a sophomore at Parkland High School, will compete in discus, shotput and javelin. However he is competing at a higher weight class which could stall his plans to repeat.
"The competition I know is going to be difficult for me. I'm barely a first year intermediate. I know there is a lot of guys who have been in this age group for two years," said Dudley.
Anthony and other area Junior Olympians begin competition Thursday with the meet wrapping up Sunday. The National Championship is July 26-31.
