Same-Sex Marriage Now Recognized By State
NEW YORK-- In a historic vote, the New York legislature voted to legalize gay marriage during a late session Friday.
The Senate passed the bill 33 for and 29 against. This after countless hours of deliberation in the past couple of weeks.
New York becomes the sixth state --and the largest-- to legalize same-sex marriages.
The passage was secured when veteran Republican Stephen Saland voted in favor of the bill.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo will sign the bill into law.
