EL PASO COUNTY— Two men were arrested Thursday afternoon on arson charges in relation to a fire that killed a horse, and engulfed at least two businesses, a semi-truck, and two homes.
El Paso County Sheriff's arrested Cipriano De La Torre, 55, and Leonel Chavira, 26. Both were taken into custody and charged with arson and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a bond set at $500 each.
EPCSO said the fire started after the two were burning trash.
Deputies said they arrived at the 13600 block of Madero Dr. in reference to a fire. A business was engulfed in flames, and De La Torre and Chavira were at the scene.
The Horizon and Socorro Fire Departments were first on the scene.
The fire continued to ignite, and caused additional damage to nearby properties.
The West Valley FD, El Paso FD, Montana Vista FD, Clint FD, Fabens FD, and the Anthony-Otero County FD also responded to the fire. The EPCSO Strike Team, Search & Rescue, El Paso Police Department, and Horizon PD also assisted, said EPCSO.
