District Court Judge Manuel Barraza was hoping for good news in the federal case against him.
Barraza faced a judge for his pre-trial hearing.
Several motions were discussed.
Most importantly was whether incriminating wiretaps could be used in court.
His lawyers wanted the judge to throw them out.
But, the judge ruled against his defense team, saying 14 wiretap recordings conducted by the FBI would be admissible in court.
However the ruling is conditional, until other issues like translation are worked out at another hearing scheduled for January.
