EL PASO- Cutting coupons is a thing of the past. Now, customers are just browsing the web to get that extra discount.
And consumers are even spending money on things they normally wouldn't.
"I probably wouldn't go to a boxing workout facility if it weren't for Groupon, but I thought that it sounded fun and the deal was pretty good so it brought me here and this place is pretty cool," Callison said.
Mary Callison has been using Groupon for about six months and she says it's a good way to test out the waters for a new restaurant or hobby you've been thinking about trying.
"It does provide you a trial and if you really are interested it gets you in the door and provides a way to know if you're going to like it or not," Callison said.
But, Mary says unless you really like the product it's hard to cough up that extra cash after you've used your electronic coupon.
"There definitely are some Groupons where you get it so cheap and then it kind of is a turn off to pay the full price," Callison said.
Local business owner Rene Armijo recently tested out electronic coupon websites like Groupon.com.
"People are reading their articles online and reading their news online and now they're getting their coupons online," Armijo said.
Rene was trying to attract new customers, but it didn't punch up his business like he wanted.
"Well we got a lot of people coming in to try it out and they use up their Groupon and a lot of them haven't come back. It's not really something you try to do to get money it's just something you try to do to get exposure. Get the people coming in, get the people talking about it," Armijo said.
