CANUTILLO - The opponents of the Canutillo High School Eagles will get the blues when they next play at Coach Julius and Irene Lowenberg Stadium starting this fall.
The Canutillo School Board voted unanimously in favor of a new artificial football turf that will mostly be blue instead of the traditional green.
The new turf was necessary to address wear and tear, as well as some deficiencies, in the artificial turf that is currently in place.
The blue turf will have orange-and-white end zone accents to highlight Canutillo’s traditional colors. A 30- to 40-foot logo of the Canutillo Eagle will be placed at midfield.
When complete, Canutillo’s football field will be one of just a handful of non-green football fields in Texas, and the first in the western part of the state.
