Thursday was a big day for a number of high school athletes from across the Borderland as multiple students from all over El Paso signed athletic scholarships for college.
Coronado's Jallycia Pearson has had a busy week competing in the UIL State track and field championship in Austin this weekend and signed to run for UTEP today. Pearson said the decision to stay home was an easy one.
"They have a really good track program, and they are division one, and also they had my major, so that's two good things and that's why I chose it," said Pearson. She plans to major in physical therapy.
At Franklin High School, Decker Smith signed to play basketball at the University of Dallas, Division III. Smith averaged 7 pts and 6 rebounds per game last season. Dallas went to the div. III postseason a year ago.
Today at Irvin High School, Daniel Quintana, Sammy Serrano, Rafa Diaz, Marcos Varela, and Andrew Thompson all signed to play soccer at Oklahoma Wesleyan.
