Local high school track star Kendra Walker has signed a letter of intent to compete for the NM State track and field squad and head coach Orin Richburg.
Walker, who is the daughter of NM State head football coach DeWayne Walker has attended Onate High School the past two years, while participating in track and field.
"We want to get the best local kids in town and the state," head coach Orin Richburg said. "Kendra (Walker) has flexibility in different areas for what were trying to do."
Walker who ranks first in New Mexico in the 100m with a time of 11.99 and second in the 200m at 25.57 is a solid pickup for the NM State track and field team.
"Kendra (Walker) is one of the best athletes in the state," assistant coach Paul Harkins said. "We feel we can attract the best of the best in New Mexico."
This past week at the New Mexico High School Championships Walker won the class 5A 200-meter run, while placing second in the 100-meter run.
During her high school career in Las Cruces and California, Walker was named sprinter of the year her freshman and sophomore years and was also league champion her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. Walker was also a member of the state champion 4x200m relay her junior year at Onate High School.
