CLINT - There is controversy in Clint tonight after high school students held a protest this morning.
The students claim a student brought a shotgun to campus last week and walked away with only a three-day suspension. They say that's not a valid punishment, especially considering the student handbook clearly says the district should be in the process of expelling him.
"Supposedly he says he goes hunting and he forgot it in the car, but I mean it was loaded and we never know what intentions he had," Student Lucero Arellano said.
Despite the rumors, the district says the gun was incapable of shooting anything. They say an investigation revealed that the student only had two shotgun barrels with him, and they say that does not meet the definition of a firearm.
This issue is expected to come up at tonight's school board meeting.
