U.S. officials confirm that an American drone missile attack in Yemen has attempted-- but failed, to kill Anwar Al-Awliki. He's the Las Cruces-born Al-Qaeda terrorist, who may replace Osama Bin Laden.
The 40-year-old New Mexico native was traveling in a car, when the drone struck. A government source says although he wasn't killed or injured in the attack, the American drone did kill two other Al-Qaeda members.
Al-Awliki was born in Las Cruces in 1970, and is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Yemen.
While the radical Muslim cleric has been hiding in Yemen, that government is looking for him, too. A Yemeni court has sentenced Al-Awliki to ten years in prison for inciting to kill foreigners.
