EL PASO - Construction is underway for public housing that is expected to be the nicest, and most energy efficient in the country.
The foundation is already set for the Paisano Green Community. It's a 10.4 million dollar project that will provide 73 affordable apartments for the elderly and those with disabilities.
"When it's all said and done, some of these residents living here, again elderly and people with disabilities, might be paying as little as eight dollars per year in energy bills," Shane Griffith, the spokesman for the Housing Authority of El Paso, said.
Griffith says the apartment complex will supply more energy than it uses during the middle of the day because of solar panels. That energy will then be pumped into El Paso Electric's grid to benefit everyone in the community.
