The UTEP men's golf team shaved eight strokes off its round score on Monday at the Conference USA Championships, but the Miners are still in 11th place heading into Tuesday's final round.
UTEP followed up a 309 on Sunday by shooting 301 on Monday for a two-day total of 610.
Tulsa leads the 11-team field (289-288-577).
Freshman Roberto Ruiz is putting together a strong tournament for the Miners, carding a one-under-par 71 on Monday for a 36-hole tally of 144. He is tied for eighth place among individuals.
David Persons is tied for 45th place (79-76-155), Devin Miertschin (82-75-157) and Luke Ovenden (78-79-157) are tied for 48th place, and Ryan Fioretti is in 54th place (79-80-159).
