EL PASO - UTEP students received a big gift from the electric company.
El Paso Electric presented the university with a check for 200-thousand dollars.
The money will allow students to take part in a competition surrounding solar panels and going green. It will also help UTEP close in on becoming a tier one university.
"Anything we can do to build out our research efforts to increase our capacity to do competitive research is going to contribute to our goal of becoming a national research university," UTEP President Diana Natalicio said. .
Todays donation still isn't enough for the university to rest easy. Students need to raise $2.5 million in order to compete in the Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon
