EL PASO – The world's largest sandwich chain is taking steps to serve healthier food.
Subway has announced it's slashed sodium in all its sandwiches. Their “Fresh Fit” sandwiches have seen a 28-percent reduction in sodium, and their overall sandwich line has been cut by 15-percent.
Many customers said they like the change.
“I'm a baseball player. I'm very athletic and I have to keep eating everything that's good for me. So, I might as well come to Subway rather than McDonald's or Whataburger, that has a bunch of sodium,” said Eric Rodriguez.
Subway's announcement comes as restaurant chains around the country face more pressure to serve healthier food. Excess sodium is considered to be one of the biggest causes of heart disease.
