EL PASO— A man was killed in a single vehicle accident early Monday morning after he lost control of his vehicle and was thrown out of the car.
Gabriel Lopez, 38, of the 1100 block of Prescott, was driving a 2000 Ford Mustang North on Loop 375 near the Spur 601 exit. The El Paso Police Department's Special Traffic Investigations unit said Lopez was speeding when he lost control of the Mustang as he neared a curve in the roadway. Lopez hit the left center barrier, and slid across two lanes of traffic to the right and onto the dirt shoulder. The Mustang hit another metal barrier at the Spur 601 exit, causing the car to roll over and come to rest in the traffic lanes.
Lopez, whom was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of the car. Lopez died at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Speed, alcohol, and failure to wear a seat belt are all believed to be factors in this crash.
