EL PASO - We now have numbers that show just how many more mountain rescues emergency crews performed in 2010.
A spokesman for the El Paso Fire Department told us that rescue crews pull more and more hikers from the Franklin Mountains every year, and we now have concrete numbers that tell the same story.
In 2009, the fire department responded to nine mountain rescues. In 2010, that number jumped by four to 13 rescues in one year.
Spokesman John Concha says the rescues could have been prevented if the people were better prepared for the hike, that includes having enough water, hiking in groups, wearing proper clothing, and staying on the trail.
