Government health officials are warning that salmonella bacteria that was detected in popular turkey burgers, may be drug-resistant.
At least a dozen people across 10 states have gotten sick from raw, frozen turkey burgers that were produced by the Jennie-O Turkey Store in Willmar, MN. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the firm recalled over 50,000 pounds of meat last week, after several illnesses were reported.
CDC officials announced that the strain of the salmonella that was found in the meat, appears to be resistant to several common antibiotics, like ampicillin, amoxicillin/clavulanate, cephalothin and tetracycline.
Of the 12 people who got sick from the turkey burgers, three have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.
