Sophomore Zac Fisher has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference hitter of the week for March 28-April 3, as announced the league office, April 4. This is the fifth time this season an Aggie slugger has earned WAC Hitter of the Week with four different Aggies winning the award.
The sophomore from Fontana, Calif., helped the Aggies to a 3-1 record last week when playing against Northern Colorado. Fisher did not play the opening game but played the last three. He went 2-for-3 in the first game of the double header. He went 6-for-11 at the plate throughout the three games. Fisher had one strike out two RBI and a walk.
The Aggies conquered the Bears to a 13-4 win with Fisher hitting a homerun that scored three runs in game two of the double header. The Aggies cam back to from 10 runs down to win the game with a score of 19-16. These three homeruns mark his first of the season.
Senior centerfielder Wes Starks was named hitter of the week, April 4 and sophomore Parker Hipp, second basemen was named hitter of the week twice, Feb.21 and March 6. Senior infielder Ryan Aguayo took home the award, Feb 28, and senior Dan Reid, who holds a 2.59 ERA, won WAC Pitcher of the Week, March 21.
The NM State baseball team, ranked No. 28 according to Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, opens WAC play on the road with a four-game series against Louisiana Tech, Friday, April 8 to Sunday, April 10 in Ruston, La. The Aggies start the series Friday at 5 p.m. before playing in a doubleheader, Saturday, at 12 p.m. The series finale is set for Sunday at 12 p.m. All four games are scheduled to be on the radio in Las Cruces at KSNM AM 570 with Jeff Matthews.
