LCPD Still Looking for Suspects
LAS CRUCES— Two schools were on lock-down Friday afternoon after shots were fired at a police officer when he attempted to pull over a pick-up truck.
A Las Cruces police officer attempted to pull over a pickup truck believed to have been involved in a home burglary.
Police were responded to a hom burglary call after a witness interrupted the crime at a home on the 900 block of Mountain Ave. Police said the reports indicate the witness was confronted by three men, one of whom appeared to have been armed with a handgun.
A LCPD officer saw the pickup, and attempted to stop it on the 1700 block of Calle Sosa. The driver of the pickup was detained, but one of the two other suspects pulled out a handgun and began firing at the officer.
The officer was not injured.
One of the two suspects then got into the pickup and drove off before they abandoned the truck and fled on foot.
The identity of the detained suspect is has not been released.
The armed suspect is described as a 5-foot 7-inch tall Hispanic male with visible tattoos along his neck. He was wearing black pants and a white shirt. The second suspect was described as a black male, 5-feet 9-inches tall. He was wearing a white t-shirt and navy blue hoodie.
Several schools, a daycare, and at least one church in the Calle Sosa area were placed on a temporary lockdown as a precaution. Students from Loma Heights Elementary and Booker T. Washington Elementary will be released to their parents, or allowed to board school buses after classes are excused for the day.

LAS CRUCES-- Reports of shots being fired near two Las Cruces schools have led to Las Cruces police to close down streets and search for a suspect.
Reports said shots were fired near Booker T. Washington Elementary and Loma Heights Elementary. As of 1:30 p.m., no injuries have been reported.
LCPD is looking for two male suspects. One was described as being tall and thinly built. Streets around the schools have been closed down while the search continues. Traffic is currently being diverted to other streets.
