SILVER CITY, N.M. -- Fire Crews are battling a massive fire in Silver City.
The fire has been called the Quail Ridge Fire after it started Monday near highway 90 at mile marker 38 South of Silver City.
Fire officials said 100 homes have been evacuated and some roads have been closed.
“At this time, we have dispatched personnel from Santa Fe, as well as Doña Ana and Luna counties to provide emergency management help to augment the multi-county response to this fire which has been moving very fast due to high winds in the area,” stated Michael S. Duvall, Cabinet Secretary of The Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department.
The Grant County Convention Center has been turned into a shelter and the Red Cross is on site assisting those in need.
