To make a great looking pumpkin, you need a great design. There are lots of templates online, but i like the ones at homelifeweekly.com. Find the patterns you like, click to enlarge and then print it out.
Then, be sure to check out the how-to video at wikihow.com. It offers several tips on carving the pumpkin, like how to use a template to get the perfect design. How to make glowing parts by making disconnected cuts and scrapes and not cutting all the way through, and how, by using petroleum jelly, you can keep the edges of the carving from turning brown.
