The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, is giving homeowners the opportunity to give their input on their new flood insurance rate maps.
FEMA says the maps have changed pretty radically from the 2007 version. The agency says a lot of properties that were considered to be in a flood plain have been taken out. El Paso City Engineer Alan Shubert says it's important for homeowners to check and see the status of their home.
"Our website will allow property owners to enter their address and see what their existing flood zone condition is and what the future one is," said Shubert.
FEMA says it will take homeowner's comments into consideration before issuing the final version of the flood insurance rate maps sometime in the summer of 2012.
