If you thought trading in sugary soda for low- or no-calorie drinks was a good idea, think again.
A new study suggests that diet sodas may be bad for your heart. The study followed more than 2,500 New Yorkers for nine years or more, and found that those who drank diet soda every day had a 61 percent higher risk of vascular events, like stroke and heart attack, than those who stayed away from diet drinks.
Despite the results, researchers aren't ready to tell consumers to skip diet drinks all together. They said more studies need to be done, before that happens.
