Congestion and chaos, that is what Gloria Morales sees every day at the intersection of Bywood and Chaswood in east El Paso.
"In the afternoon when the kids come out from school, there is a lot of traffic here back and forth. We need something to stop the traffic," Gloria says.
The problem? It is a four way intersection with no four way stop. Neighbors say before and after school, traffic on Bywood becomes really congested because cars have to wait at the stop signs, meanwhile traffic on Chaswood moves ahead. Not only is that a pain for drivers, but Gloria says it is also a danger for students at nearby Eastwood Middle School.
"There's a lot of kids crossing and they don't pay attention to traffic. They just cross," Gloria tells us. She says she thinks a four way stop would help alleviate congestion and help keep kids safe as they walk across the intersection.
We asked the city if putting in a four way stop would be possible. They tell us they have no record of any requests to review this particular intersection, but if residents call their traffic engineering department at 541-4050, they will send someone out to evaluate the problem. We will let you know what happens.
