It wasn't a smoke detector but a clock that woke up a northeast El Paso family as their home went up in flames.
The fire started at 2:30 this morning on Whitey Ford and Mickey Mantle.
Firefighters battled smoke and flames when they arrived on the scene.
There were 2 adults and one child inside the home, but they got out safely along with their five dogs.
We're told the home did have a working smoke detector, but it was the sound of the clock falling off the wall that woke them up.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
This morning firefighters tell us it will be quite some time before the family will be able to live in their home again.
