Modern-Day Robin Hood Group Delivers Food, Medicine
CIUDAD JUAREZ, MEXICO— It sounds like a modern-day Robin Hood story, except the valiant hero is a group of women who patrol through the city on pink motorcycles.
The group calls themselves the “Female Warriors,” and ride through some of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city, bringing the supplies to needy families. “Female Warriors” is composed of teachers, police officers, and businesswomen who are looking out for single mothers, the elderly and other families.
The group of middle class women ride pink motorcycles to deliver food and medicine to the poor. The pink bikes are used to project a feminine image that will set them apart from the motorcycles used by drug hit men who chase down their victims.
The supplies are paid for by the group themselves. One of the founders said the group started two years after gunmen killed seven people near a soccer field where she was volunteering.
