EL PASO - If you're getting ready to file your taxes soon, we dug up some tips and tricks to save you time and money this year.
You still have about 2 months and 3 weeks to files your taxes. But business is already starting to pick up at the H&R Block office off North Mesa in West El Paso.
"We've been very, very busy since Friday, thanks to the military getting their W2 forms early," said tax advisor Amee Raspopovich.
She says "the sooner the better" when it comes to preparing your taxes. Some of you may choose to do it on your own, others may want to have a professional take care of it. Raspopovich says a professional is probably the best bet if you know you're going to have a complicated return.
"We'll see if we can find any more credits or deductions for you. Last year a lot of people missed out."
And when it comes time to file, the IRS recommends you do it electronically. You'll get your refund check sooner and there's less chance for mistakes than filing the old fashion way, through the mail.
"It takes longer and it could get lost. You could be a victim of identity theft and the IRS has to hire people to input your info into the system and there's more probability for errors."
Last year the IRS says about 70 percent of tax payers e-filed.
There's also good news this year if you're the type to wait until the last minute. The deadline has been extended.
"It's been extended to April 18th, being that April 15th is a legal holiday in Washington D.C.”
If you're filing using the 10-40 EZ form, H&R Block will prepare it for you free of charge until February 15th.
