EL PASO - News Channel 9 is following a developing story out of the Franklin Mountains. Two hikers called 911 for help earlier tonight, and now a rescue team is headed their way.
We're told two women were hiking to the summit between Transmountain and McKelligon Canyon today, but they got lost after dark. Firefighters say the two said they were okay, but scared.
More than two dozen rescuers are trying to reach the women. We're told rescuers are worried about the women getting hypothermia because temperatures are dropping.
The Spokesman for the El Paso Fire Department would like to remind hikers to be prepared when they venture out. That includes taking enough water, knowing your route and wearing appropriate clothing.
We will continue to follow this story.
