EL PASO- A crash involving a school bus and a car leaves two people dead. One of those is a student from Montwood High School. It happened this morning in far east El Paso.
Jennifer Gomez, a junior at Montwood High School, was riding in a small Honda this morning, driven by 61 year- old Maria Gomez.
We're told she may have been Jennifer Gomez's aunt, although those reports are unconfirmed.
"I heard a big bang, like a dump truck kind of, and I turned around and all I could see was smoke," said witness Gloria Hernandez.
It was a huge collision that drew Gloria's attention, just before eight this morning. A small car had smashed into the side of a school bus.
The bus had just dropped off students, the driver about to finish up his shift.
The school bus was heading east on Vista del Sol Drive when it entered the intersection under a green light.
That's when the small silver Honda Accord blew a red light at the same intersection, flipping over the school bus.
Both people inside the car died as a result.
Investigators were on sight for hours today, and at airtime, no word yet on what caused the driver to take the red light.
We've also been told the bus driver is 54-year-old Abel Hernandez.
