Almost 40% of EL Pasoans consider themselves overweight. So city council will vote tomorrow on a resolution to combat obesity in the Sun City.
The Department of Public Health is behind the measure and one diet staple they are trying to tell people to avoid is soda.
They have recently asked the FDA to require soda manufacturers to put labels on their products warning of the high sugar and calorie content.
"Bringing that to light and letting people really understand the amount of calories and the energy that it takes to get rid of those calories is tremendous," said Sue Beatty with the Department of Public Health.
The health department says soda isn't the only culprit; they also want to warn people about the sugar content in sports drinks and juices.
