A little Luck is all Stanford needed, and for one possible final time, Andrew Luck was brilliant. Luck was 18-23 for 287 yards and four touchdowns, three to receiver Coby Feelner (6 rec, 173 yds) in a 40-12 rout of Virginia Tech in the Discover Orange Bowl, Stanford's first bowl victory in 14 years.
"I'm extremely excited," Luck said. "Couldn't be happier for the Stanford community."
Luck, a Sophomore, is considered the top draft pick in April's NFL Draft.
Virginia Tech (11-3), playing in a bowl game for the 18th consecutive year, fell to 1-27 against top-5 teams.
"They're really good, and we helped them be good," Hokies coach Frank Beamer said. "There were a couple of long plays against our defense, and then the game got away from us. The thing kind of snowballed."
Cardinal Head Coach Jim Harbaugh is rumored to be leaving the school to the NFL, or possibly his alma mater, the University of Michigan, if a position opens up. In the NFL, Harbaughg is thought to be tied to the Denver Broncos, San Francisco 49'ers, and possibly the Oakland Raiders. "Don't want to be rude, but just want to enjoy the moment, and the win for the school. it's never been done this way for Stanford football, so just want to enjoy the moment, I'm excited for this team."
