President tries to "relaunch" push for health care reform...
President Obama is about to tweak at least his strategy in the health care fight and maybe his reform plan itself.
A senior aide says the president is considering a major address next week and considering laying out the full details of what he wants.
A lot of insiders in Washington have been begging Barack Obama to take a larger role in this fight. To help a bill pass and help himself.
The summer health care fight has hammered the president's public approval down to about 50% but Barack Obama is planning a September comeback.
Top Obama aide David Axelrod confirms, the president's considering a major speech next week to detail what he wants in a health care bill.
That’s what critics called for.
"The president's introduction of his bill, the Obama bill, would trump everything," said Former Kansas Senator and Presidential candidate Bob Dole.
But, will the president demand a public option, government insurance.
Last month, he waffled.
“The public option, whether we have it or we don't have it,” the president said speaking to a group in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Unions and others on the left warn democrats not to back down on the public option.
They say that only a government insurance option can drive down private insurance prices
“If you wanna break the stranglehold, have a public option, so you can break 94% of control over the insurance market and actually make this a system that works for everybody,” said the AFL-CIO’s Richard Trumka.
Republicans say no way.
"As long as we can walk away from the public option we can have a reasonable debate about all these other issues," said republican Congressman Mike Pence of Indiana.
Will President Obama demand it???
All eyes on him and the public insurance option, next week.
