El Paso – Police arrested a man after he allegedly stabbed his wife, then barricaded himself inside the couple's east El Paso home with two young children.
The SWAT Team swarmed the neighborhood around the 11600 block of Cayuga around 7:30 a.m.
Police officers climbed onto rooftops and trained their rifles on the nearby house where the man was barricaded.
"Officers were advised that there were weapons in the house," said Darrel Petry, spokesperson for the El Paso Police Department.
It started with a drunken disturbance call around 6:00 this morning. Police say a man stabbed his wife after he got into a fight with another man. Paramedics rushed the woman to the hospital. But the man barricaded himself inside the house with the their two young daughters. Neighbors watched the tense standoff unfold.
"I hope they're alright. I hope he doesn't do anything crazy. The guy is kind of off to me. He's not all the way there,” said neighbor Anthony Arthur.
Crisis negotiators brought the man's wife back to the scene after she was released from the hospital a few hours later. Police say she helped talk the man into releasing her two daughters. NewsChannel 9 captured video of the girls being loaded into an SUV and driven away from the scene.
“After they were secured and out of the area the SWAT team made entry into the home and arrested the individual for the assault that occurred earlier in the day,” said Petry.
The man, who's name has not been released, is charged with aggravated assault.
