On Monday around 12:30 p.m., police responded to a collision at Doniphan and Graphite in the upper valley. The investigation found that a green Ford Explorer failed to yield to a motorcycle's right of way, leading to a fatal crash.
The driver of the Explorer was 47-year-old Maria Chavez. The driver of the motorcycle, 50-year-old Alfonso Ortegon, was rushed to University Medical Center where he later died. He wasn't wearing a helmet.
A local biker activist group says they want to see the driver of the Ford Explorer issued a citation.
Butch MacIntyre, secretary of the Briseno Fallen Bikers Foundation, says if the driver of the Explorer failed to yield to the motorcyclist, a citation should be issued.
Watch the full story tonight at 5, 6, and 10, and hear why police say a citation won't be issued in the near future.
