Texas Highway Patrol is increasing its DWI patrols for the holidays.
From December 21 to January 1, TxDOT will be conducting DWI patrols at high-risk locations during high-risk times. TxDOT is able to conduct these patrols with extra money from a grant that targets impaired driving.
Highway Patrol will also have extra troopers on hand to patrol Texas highways on Christmas Eve through midnight on the 26th.
Last year during this time, DPS arrested 350 drivers for driving while intoxicated and also issued 9,212 speeding tickets.
