EL PASO- Tickets for the Sun Bowl are sold out and that means the stadium will be packed to overflowing. And that's not the only thing that's filling up fast as NewsChannel 9's Matt Rivers reports.
Busy times for the Holiday Inn Express downtown, thanks in large part to a Sun Bowl for the ages.
"Our reservation activity for the Sun Bowl dates has been strong," says part-owner Joe Frandina.
Miami and Notre Dame will square off on New Year's Eve. The two are major programs, and historically bring lots of fans to bowl games.
Frandina's hotel is almost sold out, and he expects the rest of his rooms to be gone by the weekend.
The same goes for Kai Buemer, who runs the Marriott at the airport. He's filling rooms up fast, especially because he expects to house Miami's football team for a week prior to the matchup.
With over 50 players plus support staff, they'll need a lot of rooms.
"They're not going to take the entire hotel but they'll have a substantial block that will bring us very close to a sellout," Buemer told us.
Joe Frandina, who also heads the local Hotel-Motel Association says hotels near the Sun Bowl usually do well around game time. It's others around town, though, that could benefit this year.
"It's a benefit for the hotels that are farther away because there's more people coming in form out of town," Frandina told us.
The best Sun Bowl in years according to most, for reasons both on and off the field.
