CANUTILLO - The Canutillo school district's approach to cutting $4 million from its budget has earned it the Texas School Business Association's Bragging Rights Award.
Canutillo is one of only 12 districts give the award this year.
Canutillo is featured in a three-page article in the current issue of Texas School Business magazine.
The district won the award for involving more than 20 parents, taxpayers, business leaders and employees in the painful budget process.
Proposed cut included elimination of 66 positions, mostly through attrition, the reduction of various programs and the requirement of a six day, unpaid furlough for all employees excluding teachers.
