Two-Month-Old Baby Dies, Mother In Jail

LAS CRUCES - A two-month-old baby girl from Las Cruces who police say was abused by her mother has died of her injuries.

Baby Jade died earlier today at Las Palmas Medical Center. She was on life support for three days. Her parents took her to a hospital in Las Cruces after she was unresponsive Sunday. Then she was taken to a hospital here in El Paso.

Investigators say baby Jade died of shaken baby syndrome. Her mother Diana Goenaga, 17, has been charged with child abuse causing death and remains at the El Paso County Jail.
